Type in buildings

While walking on South Beach threw Ocean Drive these two Hotel came to my attention because of the bold signs they have. Guessing by the structure, the color, and the decorative motives in the front of the Hotel I believe they belong to a 40's - 50's era. After these I realize and learned that every font used in each sign not only came to play in the architectural design so it looks good and attractive to the public, but it also gives you a hint of the vibe lived in them.

  1. hey nat,

some of that type is actually 1930's art deco. there are a couple of good books on roadside architecture from the 50s - which had the same kind of progressivism of the 30s, but with the added character of the jet/space age.
